Ramping up UHK 60 v2 production

Hi there, and welcome to this monthly UHK status update!

TL;DR: UHK 60 v2 production volume was in the hundreds in November, allowing us to combat the backlog of pending orders effectively. We’re catching up, and production progress will keep accelerating. New orders are expected to ship in April, and we’ll update the delivery status page every weekend.

We’re happy to say that production is slowly but surely getting smoother, and this month, we were finally able to produce not a meager 50 or 60 but hundreds of UHKs. We’re well on our way to catching up.

We’ll keep accelerating manufacturing progress. Due to holidays, the progress of December is expected to be similar to November, and we expect to achieve peak progress in January.

We still only have black cases. If you have a pending order containing a UHK 60 v2 with a non-black case or an extra non-black case, we won’t send your pending orders to production until we have non-black cases in stock unless you ask us to switch the case colors of your order to black by filling out this form.

We expect to get non-black cases in January or possibly in late December. As soon as we get them, we’ll publish an exclusive newsletter with a form with which you’ll be able to switch (back) to your desired case color.

We’re delighted to hear from UHK 60 v2 customers as they receive their orders!

Thanks for reading this update! We’ll be keeping you updated on all things UHK and plan to publish the next update at the end of December.

Note delivery status page still states "New orders are expected to ship in March 2022" in first paragraph.

Thanks for the heads-up! Just fixed it.

So whereabouts are we with the order numbers? I know, orders differ vastly and isn't a clear indication, but it's _something_.
When is ~#8500 expected to go out?

We don't know exactly. Please keep checking the delivery status page.

If I recently ordered a v2 accessory (palm rest) by itself, will that have to wait until the pending keyboard orders catch up (March/April) or will it potentially ship earlier?

    • László Monda 2021-12-01 at 08:40

The former. We ship every product on a first-come, first-served basis unless someone has a serious condition like repetitive strain injury. We also ship spare parts earlier if someone needs them to keep using his/her UHK.

        Hi,

To clarify things: I have ordered the Keyboard in December 2020 and the Key Cluster in October 2021.
So that means, you will ship both together? It would be cool, to receive the Keyboard and the Key Cluster at the same time :-D

Besides that: I can't wait for the keyboard. A good friend of mine has been using v1 for a while, and he loves that keyboard.

        Greetings,
        Klaus

          Hi Klaus,

We'll ship your orders together according to the order date of your first order. Thanks for your kind words! :)

The months slippage in the last order date hasnt been updated properly since the weekend update two days ago. Delivery status page contradicts itself now.

Thanks for the heads-up! Just updated the page.

How many shipped in November so we can expect how many will ship in December in please?

Reason for asking is i am order 8478 so if you are going to ship more than 369 i might get mine this year.

    • László Monda 2021-12-01 at 08:44

We would rather not share the exact numbers. I'm unsure whether we'll hit order #8478 in December. We expect to ship your order in December or January.

Received my UHKv2 about a week ago and I have to say I absolutely love it, thank you so much team UHK! The quality is absolutely top notch and the typing experience is fantastic. Took me a little bit to get used to it, I found out that my right hand is terrible coordinated when typing and wants to wander unnecessarily into the left half of the keyboard. Of course that doesn't go so well when the keyboard is split, but my WPM has been coming steadily back up and I'm getting better at hitting the right key every time. Anyways, I got the trackpoint module as well and I've also banned my mouse from my desk and went all in cold turkey. It's been a blast and I don't regret it whatsoever.

Anyways, I'm mostly writing this because despite the delays and everything, I'm extremely pleased with the final product and its quality. It was absolutely worth the wait! Thank you for keeping us updated over the year and working hard on this.

Thanks so much for the kind words and being so patient during these challenging times! We're thrilled to hear how well the UHK worked out for you.

Hi, Got my V2 last week and it is a nice unit. Two questions and two observations:

    Observation :
1 -the stabilisers are harsh and scratchy. Unpleasant to use the R Shift and R Control.
2 - the agent software is very nice and hugely useable.

    Questions:
1 - I am hoping lubing the stabilisers will help. What lube would you recommend?
2 - The trackball rings, can you get replacements; swapping the balls seems to be semi destructive to them, as in I cannot see them lasting many changes.

    • László Monda 2021-12-21 at 08:33

      Hi there!

      1. Sorry to hear about the stabilizers. I don't think we've received any bad feedback about them so far, but sewing machine oil should improve them.
      2. We can provide replacement trackball rings, but given the lack of such requests so far, I find it unlikely that you'll have problems with the ring.

      • Nathan 2021-12-27 at 02:54

I also have scratched up the grooves and the "holes" of the ring when swapping the balls of the trackball. I have only swapped a couple of times, but I would agree, it tends to be a little bit more destructive to the ring almost every time I remove (or attempt to remove) it. I watched the ball replacement instructions from the UHK YouTube channel, and it shows loosening and tightening the ring by just applying pressure to it with your finger tips; however, this cannot be done with my module; I have to use the paper clip technique (for both loosening and tightening), and no matter how carefully I try, the clip tends to slip and further scratch up the ring. I would also appreciate replacement ring future offerings as well.

        • László Monda 2021-12-27 at 12:35

Thanks for your feedback! We will offer replacement trackball module rings then. I plan to add this product in a month to our webshop.

        • EdbO 2021-12-28 at 21:50

I've also scratched the ring of the trackball. I'm using now small nose pliers which I put into the two small holes to rotate the ring which is way easier then using your fingers.

https://github.com/UltimateHackingKeyboard/firmware/files/7725857/uhk-firmware-8.10.12-usb-fix.tar.gz breaks wake from sleep on macOS. I'll try the 8.10.12 release again to confirm the usb fixes break it.
