The following is an official repair guide for the Ultimate Hacking Keyboard palm rest. Since repair extends product lifespan and saves natural resources, we're dedicated to providing product repair guides. We respect the two-year warranty period of our products regardless.
We have received very few reports (about 0.1% of palm rest purchases) saying that the palm rest lacquer layer degrades. According to these cases, this happens for two reasons:
- Human skin tends to absorb chemicals, which dissipate with sweat. This hurts lacquer, so if you happen to work with chemicals, chances are high it's the reason. Isopropyl alcohol or ethanol-based products dissolve the lacquer of the palm rest.
- Alternatively, if your sweat happens to be unusually strong and/or acidic, it may eat away lacquer over time. Environmental conditions, such as humidity and heat, can also contribute.
Our palm rest supplier provided the following instructions for refurbishing UHK palm rests:
- If you have any feet attached, they must be removed. Remove the bases (flip-out parts) of the feet first, then 3 screws per foot must be unscrewed.
- Unscrew 4 screws per palm rest half to separate the wooden parts from the base plates.
- Polish the wooden surface with P220 sandpaper.
- Make the surface dust-free.
- Use lacquer spray, which is normally used for cars, and spray the surface.
